Broken Mercari Shipment & Lies

As a buyer, it is incredibly frustrating to receive a shipment that was broken in transit. While the blame can be placed on the courier many times, it is far too common that sellers are not properly packing their orders.

I purchased this vintage Cracker Barrel Snowflake Teaset on Mercari from a seller who had over 1700 completed sales. The price was right ( even with Mercari's goofy ass fees ) and the item was listed as "new". Mercari states that items listed as "new" must be unopened, unused and new with tags.

This item arrived in the original box, however it had clearly been opened and used before. Each individual item was wrapped in 1 sheet of thin bubble wrap and placed in the box so that each piece could easily flip and flop around loosely within the box. Clanking and chipping with each mile it traveled. Not only was each piece carelessy packed in the original box but the original box was placed in a larger box where it was able to summersault all around as well.

Sadly, Mercari does not showcase return rate on seller's pages. She did have a couple low star reviews for item cleanliness and packaging, but I gave the benefit of the doubt and opted to order anyway.

I opted to not return the item and break out the super glue instead. I did leave her a 1 star review and clearly stated how shitty of a seller she was. Not only a liar of condition but careless in her packing as well.

As a seller, this item would be listed as "used, good condition". I'd have wrapped each item individually, using cardboard to seperate each item within the box. It would also have been double boxed. I'd likely have wrapped and boxed the tray outside of it's original box and left the other items in the original box with cardboard seperating each item. Then, I'd have placed the original box and the box with the tray inside another box. No space would be left inside the shipping box. There would be no wiggle room within the shipping box. Why? Because I actually give a shit, unlike this particular Mercari seller.
